February 18, 2026/in Grants, News

Cranston, RI – The Pocasset Pokanoket Land Trust, an organization that supports indigenous communities throughout the Northeast, received a $160,000 general operating grant from Point32Health Foundation. The funds support coalitions and organizations that advance community-led initiatives to drive civic engagement and improve health outcomes.

“I want to thank Point32Health Foundation for their belief in our abilities to provide services to our indigenous communities and others,” said Sequan Pijaki-Qusamequin, Executive Director of the Pocasset Pokanoket Land Trust and Chairman of the Pocasset Tribe of the Pokanoket Nation. “This grant gives us an opportunity to bring generations together to create healthy medicine through food and foster healthier care of our minds, bodies and spirits.”

This grant is one of 24 new investments totaling $1.8 million from the philanthropic arm of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and Tufts Health Plan, Point32Health Foundation.

“These investments strengthen organizations that lead with community voices and priorities,” said Kristin Lewis, president of the Point32Health Foundation and executive vice president of Point32Health. “By investing in their missions, we can help create lasting, transformative change across the communities we serve.”

February 13, 2026/in Grants, News

Pocasset Pokanoket Land Trust is one of dozens of nonprofits across the state that will share nearly $7 million in grants from two new grant programs launched last year as part of the Rhode Island Foundation’s new Five-Year Action Plan.

“We are focused on crucial community priorities like civic and cultural life, housing and economic mobility, healthy and strong communities, sustainability, and education and student success,” said David N. Cicilline, the Foundation’s president and CEO.

“These grants deliver on the more than one year of community outreach and research that went into developing a blueprint to address the varied and complex challenges the state faces,” said Cicilline.

The Foundation awarded more than $6.5 million from its new Community Priority Grants program, which, provides programmatic and general operating support to organizations and programs that respond to one or more of the Foundation’s community priorities and related focus areas.

The Pocasset Pokanoket Land Trust (PPLT) has received a grant from the Schmidt Family Foundation to support its Indigenous Food Sovereignty Program, which serves communities in Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. Together, they aim to support fifty families by the end of the year through hands-on learning, cultural exchange, and regenerative food practices.
